No one ever got fired for choosing the industry standard.
And what does he use for his own code? Java? C#? PHP? No, "private, in-house language written by one of our best developers that is optimized specifically for developing FogBugz".

What always amuses me about Joel's rants is that he speaks with such importance about Fog Creek's "mission critical" software. Fog Creek's first and primary product is an overglorified version of bugzilla. Their other products are equally unimpressive. And they've spent a lot of money, and obviously based on Joel's blogs, a lot of time designing software that most programmers could churn out in a weekend.
I prefer the non-philosophical waxings of Philip Greenspun -- the first guy to put a database to a web page. And does he pretend that it's that difficult? No.
Philip, BTW, uses TCL. So go figure.
Phillip's one smart d00d.
And he's way funnier than Joel.
